Top tips to get you going again in the gym.

  1. Set a new Goal?

Before you return, what are you going back to the gym to achieve?
Are you wanting to lose some weight or are you wanting to get stronger in certain areas or is it to just stay healthy etc..? Pick a sensible goal to aim for over a 12 week period and work towards achieving just that. Keep it simple!

  2. Start Slow.
Sounds a bit basic but its true, you simply can’t go back training and do exactly what you’ve done many months before. If you’ve not been to the gym in ages, it’s reasonable to see a decline in strength or endurance. So build it back steadily & don’t start training 5 days a week flat out from nothing. As they say: “Rome wasn't built in a day!!”

  3. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

It’s vital to stay positive starting back in a gym – you will improve and get back to where you left off (it will just take a few weeks to get back on track). Enjoy starting back up in a gym - laugh, joke and have some fun!

  4. Get booked in for some Sports Massage Recovery!

Give it a week and your muscles won’t know whats hit them! The muscle strains will come on hard as your body will have forgotten what it was like to train. Don’t let this put you off and give up (its normal). Plan ahead and recover the fastest way you can with Sports Massage to loosen back up. Get in touch if you would like to arrange a session -here-

  5. Maybe get a Fitness Programme to follow?

Take the stress out of trying to work out what is best for you by speaking with a Sports Physio or expert PT to create a plan for you to follow. The physio clinic here is always available on-hand should you need any ongoing support/guidance to get going again in a gym. It could make a big difference to keep you injury-free!
